Nice to see you again too, Jessy... It is sad but true that science and facts are not enough to change people. Don't get me wrong, science and facts are crucial, but it's not enough to just "show people the facts". If it were, more people would be eating healthy food, not processed junk. There are other factors to consider. What is simple and easy? What "costs" the least? What is convenient? What is "tasty" or "appealing"? What will satisfy my needs (emotionally, etc.)? People want to feel brave and noble, as you said. They like to feel superior, that they have something special that other people don't... So how can we beat the antis at this game? For instance, is there a way to make respect towards MAPs "cost" less than severely stigmatizing them? I think there is, and groups like B4U-ACT are trying to point that out. That treating something as so awful, you can't even talk about it, is dangerous. Then when people seek help/need to talk about it, they don't have anywhere to go. Or they have limited resources. They only know the idea that pedophile = child molester. But it doesn't have to be that way. Society creates this image of "all pedophiles are rapists (or want to rape)" and people believe it. Society, in that way, does not encourage an alternative. It encourages self-hate, suicide, rape, sex offenders. That costs a lot. (or maybe it is a boon, for the prison industry, but i'll leave that discussion for another day...) ![]() |
