It's considered cool to hate conservatives these days, though, (not that I'm pro-Trump or anything, I'm definitely not) so I guess we'll see if George Takai's statements are going to get brought up much in the mainstream. Seriously, though, he and this Milo fella are only doing what a lot of gay folks have been doing for a while; praising older homosexual mentors for helping to ease them into having relationships and allowing them to further establish their sexual identities. Typically, though, their statements get ignored and not really talked about because a lot of mainstream gay activists don't like to talk about how inter generational relationships were championed before it became a punchline about daddy/twink relationships and pornographic love fantasies. I tend to gravitate more toward queer artists who are provocative or who challenge the mainstream, like Bruce LaBruce or John Waters, for example, who can pretty much say anything they want with their art, no matter how shocking, and people will just be like, well what do you expect from those crazy weirdos? I think it's healthy for people to constantly be pushed outside their comfort levels. It encourages open-mindedness. I'm more or less okay with the idea of child-adult relationships not ever being wholly accepted (especially considering that interracial relationships still haven't been wholly accepted) but I would like to see these kinds of things discussed and explored a lot more and taken a bit seriously. Stories like George Takai occur every day, and I find that it's a lot harder to ignore these things even if I weren't sexually-inclined the way that I am. Sorry for the rant, totally didn't meant to do that. |
