There is a study about the X-linkage of gayness, X being the chromosome. Women have 2 X's, but 1 gets mostly inactivated and turns into the Barr body. This happens early during gestation and should be randomly.

Some cats have their fur color encoded on the X, and the females normally have a checked pattern.

Some women have a skewed inactivation, where the active X-chromosomes either came from the father or mother. Normally, less then 4% has this condition. If you take only mothers of gay sons, this rises to 16%. If you take mothers of 2 gay sons, it raises to 25%.
