Whenever is it proposed to do away with something onerous, people always attempt to defend it with the statement, "What will we put in its place?" Good examples are slavery. The South knew slavery was morally wrong, but their economy depended on it. "Oh my, but what will we put in its place?" Child-beating is another example. "But what will we put in its place?" We don't have an upper age of consent. That doesn't mean we endorse 19 year olds fucking 95 year old grandmothers with Alzheimer's. We already have laws against rape, custodial interference, and a plethora of other things. We don't need a rubber stamp that is used only on young people. If someone with standing wishes to allege that a young person is being taken advantage of, let them try to make their case in front of a magistrate, and if it doesn't pass the giggle test, let it be thrown out with prejudice. |
