Bubbles...

Have you ever blown bubbles for a kid - maybe one 4 or 5 or 6 years old? I used to blow bubbles for Little Angel. He loved it! He'd chase after all of them. What a fun game! Yeah, kids love bubbles! The bigger, the better!

But have you noticed the first thing the kids do when they see a bubble? They try to pop it! Little Angel would squeal with glee each time he popped one of my bubbles! He would try to pop as many of them as he could, just as fast as he could.

It would become a race - a race to see if he could pop the bubbles faster than I could blow them. I didn't mind, though. That was his way of playing the "bubble" game. But sometimes a bubble would be especially nice - and I'd hate to see him chase it down and pop it. I would say nothing, though. He was just four years old. He didn't really understand the beauty of bubbles...

Do the kids like the iridescence of the bubbles? All the swirling colors on the surface, constantly changing? Yes, they do, when they stop to look at them. But the beautiful colors don't usually really matter very much to them.

The only thing they want to do is pop the bubbles, and as fast as they can. Destroy them! Wheee! It's fun! Pop all the bubbles! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! That's the game.

Of course, if they are the ones blowing the bubbles, they get quite upset when others pop them. Funny, that...

Adults, usually, will appreciate the bubbles more. They will watch them as they float gently in the air. And enjoy the mini "light-show" they see on the surface. And go, "oh, too bad..." when the bubbles burst...

But not young kids. Nope. They are "bubble-killing machines"!

Popping bubbles is one of a child's most favorite games. It is, after all, "child's play".

You know, it makes me wonder sometimes. I wonder if there are any similarities between bubbles, and posts on a chat board...

Hmm...

(I wonder who is going to be the first to "pop" this one! I think I know already...)
