It really depends. They are not all "out to control people." Most MDs on my experience (which has been pretty extensive) really go into medicine because they want to help people. Of course, it is easy to want this when one can make a decent salary doing so, but nevertheless it's true. Now many become corrupted, at least relatively, after getting the MD and learning how to play the game for max profits, but that is not all of them and maybe not even the majority. I have found it very helpful to have such a professional in whom to confide my innermost feelings and who made clearly known the boundaries I could not cross (I.e. no identifiable "victims"). I really looked forward to those twice weekly sessions. OTOH, I have also had some real assclowns who violated my confidentiality and caused many problems. So, IF you can find someone to confide in, I highly recommend it, but that is a very big IF. |
