How would you find out if a friend is a BL

I met someone last year who set off a bunch of triggers to make me think he's either a BL or a GL. He had really childish style, and used a sonic the hedge-hog boy's backpack to carry his books around. He also had kinda questionable grooming... His mustache was way too long, etc, and he didn't seem to notice.

I remarked on this because it reminds me of me.

I don't see him any more but if this were to happen again, how could I proceed?

My thought would be to ask him if he knew what the BLogo was. But that's risky and a kinda weird question.
