Just to answer your post seriously - because it deserves a serious response - I feel you deeply underestimate the eventual impact of technology. What is coming will mark a greater change to humanity than the neolithic revolution, and the implications will be a teensy bit more profound than the invention of the ‘washer and dryer’. Within the next century, 100 per cent of human jobs will be replaced. That in itself is not necessarily a problem. Most jobs are sheer boredom anyway and UBI is coming.

What worries me is the absence of any human striving for artistic creation, scientific discovery, or philosophical insight. Why do any of these things when a superintelligence can do it a million times better and faster and with zero effort? And how can we perform socially useful tasks when an AGI or ASI can do it better?

It's as though we are running downhill and have built up such momentum that we can no longer stop ourselves. The singularity is coming, and only God (or Superintelligence) knows what happens when we reach that point.

But I'm starting to reconcile myself to the impermanence of the human species. πάντα ρει. ‘Man is a rope stretched between the animal and the Superman — a rope over an abyss.’
