It is much more complicated that. If someone gives his address and phone number, than we could forward that. But if a poster does not volunteer that information, then everything has to go through police and court. And one needs to request the ISP to divulge the actual connection - which again could be WiFi and the wrong guy. And then too much information has to be given that could backfire.

The other day, they discussed at work about installing a video camera for surveillance. I did not know that one is not allowed to review the recordings by oneself. One actually needs to go to the police and have to request them to sort it out. Privacy protection is a hassle. And if one is discovered breaking the laws, it leads to hefty fines and also law suites. Some had video surveillance and had to turn the cameras in a way that made them useless.

The best way for the FSCo is to not record IP-addresses at all - if some identification of recurring trolls is required, we should only store hashes.
