"...millennia of arranged marriages, for financial gain, among the Indians—originally a noble people—led to a nation now, of one billion, that almost never wins any athletic contests, that has won fewer gold medals since its inception than tiny Croatia has since 1992, where both the men and the women are inbred, ugly, unsexy, and almost deformed." - Bronze Age Mindest, Bronze Age Pervert Nietzsche has a more positive view, seeing in the Indian caste system a great breeding project designed to create peoples of diverse temperaments suited to different modes of life. Commenting on the Manusmriti - the 'Law of Manu' - he says "Here the proposed task is to breed no fewer than four races simultaneously: a priestly, a warrior, and a trading and farming race, and finally a menial race, the Sudras. ... a species of human being a hundred times more gentle and rational [than is characteristic of Christian civilisation] is presupposed even to conceive the plan of such a breeding." (Twilight of the Idols, pp. 56-57, Penguin, 1968) For what it's worth, my sympathies here lie more with Nietzsche. If Indians don't win medals, perhaps it's because they've got better things to do than lift weights. (Anne Marshall, in her utterly brilliant, but now forgotten and unread, book Hunting the Guru in India, reports a saying that Indians have: if people are serious about life then they are born in India - everyone born elsewhere is merely playing. I'm inclined to agree.) Anyhow, just to prove that not all Indians are 'almost deformed', here's a quite gorgeous Indian boy (or at least so he seems to me) I found on YouTube - Link below. He's sitting to Krishnamurti's left (i.e. on the right as we face them - I've always had difficulty with this idiom). I haven't watched the whole video, though - it's too long.
